Blues
Volume Two
McB 29901
As we all know, Nashville is much more than just country music. This 14
track compilation showcases some pretty talented Blues artists working out of
that city. All but three of the songs were recorded live at Bourbon Street
Blues & Boogie Bar and I'm pleased to say the mix was excellent-good balance
of the musicians and just enough of a live edge to give it the bite that good
Blues needs. The musical styles represented on the cD ranged from front
porch understated Blues to wall-of-sound boogie band Blues to wailing Blues-just
what the doctor ordered for those nights when you can't make up your mind what
you want to listen to.
There were four cuts on this cD that I especially liked. carissia &
company presented a song titled No More. I could listen
to her all night long. Smooth as bourbon voice, nice turn of lyrics and a
backup band with a sax player that clearly knew the way around his instrument.
Radon Rick & the Radiators offered Elvis on the Radio.
No matter how many
times I hear a good harp player, I will never get over just how much a
talented musician can get done by just blowing over a few reeds and Ricky
Weaver doesn't give anything away to anyone. Throw in a boogie guitar
and amusing lyrics, you're ready to get up and start dancing. Dave
Mackenzie played some sweet front porch guitar blues on No Need to
Worry and a real tasty gut bucket Blues tune from Ronnie Godfrey (Green
Snake Blues) round out my favorites on this cD.
