Monti
Amundson
I See Trouble
M&M Records
couldn't find any information on Monti. Liner notes are sparse and
stick to the basics. Drums and bass back-up Amundson on acoustic
guitar. Nothing fancy-just rhythms that don't overwhelm the guitar.
Eight out of 13 cuts are original, with another a shared effort. These are
a mix of tempos, from slow shuffle to rumba. The second cut should have
been the title; Oh, Johnny Why is an enjoyable bluesy slide piece,
talking to a bottle of Johnny Walker about the misfortunes of life. Several cuts
had some very nice finger work. Monti's voice doesn't have that
low-down, gravely bluesy sound that I enjoy, but he has a very smooth sound.
Lyrically, the standard Blues themes are covered. This cD won't leave you
jumping and screaming, but it is good uncluttered acoustic guitar blues with a
toe-tapping beat.
