Mason Ruffner
"You can't Win"
Burnside Records BcD 0035-2
Mason Ruffner is a musician who has been playing the blues for a long
time and it shows on his new cD. All of the material is written by
Mason and it has a good variation of tempo throughout. The guitar
lines
are all crisp and interesting and there is some slide guitar in a couple
tracks as well. The lyrics in Keep Your Light On For Me tell
a story ala
Bob Dylan style. You can't Win was recorded in the
studio live with very
few overdubs.
Mason Ruffner spent years playing
clubs in New Orleans. Over the years,
he opened for Ringo Starr, Dave Edmunds and Jimmy Page and in
1985,
formed a trio called The Blues Rockers. For several years this band
pursued the lucrative rock market and released a couple of albums that
put them on the fast track.
After a 10 year hiatus, Ruffner returned to playing the blues and moved to Memphis. The music there inspired him to add horns to his new cD, a move that he had never considered before.
This is a well-rounded cD that you will put on 10 years from now and
still think it sounds good. Total play time is 52:30. To find out more
