Mark Hummel "Low Down To Uptown" Tone-cool 1169 I’m Hooked! Mark Hummel exclaims . . . and so it begins, the lowdown to uptown ride he takes you on. Ooh La La was the feeling I had listening to this new cD of mostly original songs. What I like is an hour of music that covers a variety of styles, each one telling a story. So listen to the different tales told from a wonderful cast of players. All the styles are here, Little Walter, George "Harmonica" Smith, and chicago-style blues. Music lovers who enjoy the harmonica greats will get a thrill listening to Mark Hummel on this one. Baritone sax, piano and guitar create the image of chess Records of the 50’s and 60’s. If you liked Jimmy Reed, Bluestime, James cotton and Dan Electro, you’ll be familiar with what this disc has to say. You won’t be bored here. Each track is another story well told. Po’ Man’s Shoe Shine, Underhanded Woman and West coast Flood were my favorites. check it out and write to us at Twelve Bar Rag with your feedback. Do you agree? Have you heard a cD you wold recommend? Until next time, thanks for keeping alive a precious part of our culture. Jerry Gallentine ©copyright 1999, Suncoast Blues Society |
