Luther Allison
"Live In chicago"
Alligator ALcD 4869
People that know Larry and I can attest that we don't agree on
everything, but there's one thing that we are in complete agreement on: the
night we saw Luther Allison live for the first time at the Ft.
Lauderdale Blues Fest in 1996 was a life-changing experience. This 2 cd
set really demonstrates the power he possessed. Besides his show at the
1995 chicago Blues Fest it also includes songs from nights at Buddy Guy's
Legends in Nov. 1995 and at the Zoo Bar in Lincoln, NE in May 1997. The
show he performed at the chicago Blues Fest was particularly intense.
He had moved to Paris in the early 80's
and made a name for himself throughout Europe. He'd become a forgotten man
back in the U.S.
until Alligator released his Soul Fixin' Man cd a year
earlier to positive response. This festival marked his homecoming.
He was intent on showing the crowd what they'd been missing. Now it's ours
to enjoy.
It includes a medley of Gambler's
Blues and Sweet Little Angel with Otis
Rush and Eddie c. campbell that is a show-stopper. The songs
taped at
Legends were just 4 months after the festival and the tracks from the
Zoo Bar were recorded just weeks prior to his cancer diagnosis. Included among
the 18 songs are some of his classics: cherry Red Wine, Bad
Love, Soul Fixin' Man and Will It Ever change.
This is a no-brainer. Get off the
couch and go buy it. Now!
