Kid Ramos
"Kid Ramos"
Evidence EcD 26104-2
Recorded over two 14 hour days with all the players live in the studio, Kid
Ramos reunites Kid with many of the players that helped pave the way
for his musical career. James Harman (harp & vocal), Kim
Wilson (vocal), Lynwood Slim (vocal) Willie campbell (bass), Gene
Taylor (piano), and Willie chambers (vocal). But make no
mistake about it, this is a guitar album. It is not the out front, in your
face of many guitar featured recordings, rather it is weaved in between
excellent horn arrangements, inspired harp and a variety of vocal styles.
Eight years of four sets a night, five nights a week with the James Harman
Band have honed the skills of this Los Angeles bluesman to a fine edge.
Kid Ramos has the depth of ability and breadth of style to make each of
the selections a wonderful listening experience. Whether Kid is
scorching the strings in the Fab T-Bird inspired Dead Love
and the Albert collins-like instrumental cold chicken and Beer,
or caressing them as in Open Up Your Heart and Helsinki
Laundromat Blues, this is
Kid Ramos doing what he does best. He pulls out his slide for Fiddle
De Dee and is obviously in the zone on Otis Rush's It Takes
Time. This is a delightful journey around the blues with a truly
fine guitar player and his friends.
In addition to his many guitar stylings, Kid Ramos plays a variety of
guitar and amp combinations. For those of you interested in how the
diverse sounds are attained, each guitar/amp combination is faithfully noted,
what a nice touch.
