Joanna connor

"Slidetime"

Blind Pig BPcD-5047

Joanna connor, virtuoso vocalist, lead, rhythm and slide guitarist all in one, has created Slidetime, a cD full of the blues all ways and any way you wish to have them delivered. Joanna, along with Susan Tedeschi, have to be two of the youngest, finest, fiercest playing women guitarists and lead vocalists tearing it up these days. Serious attention and respect is certainly required for this one. The eleven tunes were all penned by Joanna, with the exception of two which were co-written with her, will rock, swing, slide, moan, groan and move you! Guaranteed!!!

Nothin But The Blues will aptly tell you that she has a new line on the blues-this one is a modern blues rocker with Joanna taking on the blues in her own style and conquering them by the end of the song and most certainly by the end of the cD. Got To Have You has a slight reggae lilt to it with nice licks of blues. It’s a great dance number-great drums-cool blues! Slide On In is chock full of rockin’ innuendos- Whew! Free Free Woman is a nice mix of rock, R'n'B style blues. Joanna gives her feminist viewpoint-good advice here. Of course there are a couple slow, cool, slinky driving blues numbers: You Don’t Love Me, which sounds as if she is convinced and is telling the cool truths of how it is, and Money Blues. Both seem like timeless subjects to moan about in blues traditions-money and love. The last song on the disc, Pea Vine Blues, rounds out the complete package of original songs. co-written with Ron Johnson, it is one where Joanna pays homage to where she learned the blues-chicago. In this song are common blues and phrases, great guitar grooves which give it this soft but sassy lullabyish feel to close the cD and, may I add, what a classy way to do so! Joanna dedicates this release in loving memory to her Papa Alex, Luther Allison, John Duich and Jr. Wells.

Dance and swim to the music and keep smiling!
