Billy Branch

"Satisfy Me"

House of Blues 51416 1459 2

Billy Branch gives several nods to some of his musical heroes in his first cd on the House of Blues label. Satisfy Me is not an all-blues album, but rather presents the veteran chicago bluesman in a variety of musical milieus.

On Pay Or Stay he evokes memories of Sonny Boy. Son of Juke is an obvious bow to Little Walter. Branch rocks out on Boogie Man and Goin' Down, two songs long associated with Freddie King. He gets off a wicked solo on Muddy Waters' Same Thing. He takes Bill Withers old song, Kissin' My Love, and gives it some new clothes.
Branch's harp work is superb throughout this album and his mix of songs makes for pleasant listening.

After hearing Satisfy Me, I'm satisfied that Billy Branch is destined to play a major role in 21st century blues.
