Al Fuller

"Lonely & Blue"

I read an article on Al Fuller in Twelve Bar Rag a while back, so he was not a complete unknown to me, but I'd never heard him until I listened to this album.  Al is an old-pro guitarist who mixes a wide variety of styles and blends electric and acoustic tunes together in a very appetizing way.  His vocal style reminds me quite a bit of Robben Ford.

There's a little of everything on Lonely & Blue - from traditional Delta-style classic blues to rock & roll.  Most of the songs are original, but Al includes standards like, Long Distance Call, Kind Hearted Woman, and a sweet version of Elmore James' Goodbye Baby.

Lonely & Blue is a first class production, with incisive interpretations of superior songs.  Al plays around Sarasota most of the time so if I can't catch him farther north, I'll be headin' down that way soon to enjoy some of his excellent music in person.
